NaNoWriMo Day #7

Welcome to NaNoWriMo, Day 7!

It’s Sunday. Time to rock that word count, people! But first, we highly recommend treating yourself to a leisurely cup of coffee.

Today’s inspiration comes from Elizabeth Gilbert, author of Eat, Pray, Love:

I believe that – if you are serious about a life of writing, or indeed about any creative form of expression – that you should take on this work like a holy calling. I became a writer the way other people become monks or nuns. I made a vow to writing, very young. I became Bride-of-Writing. I was writing’s most devotional handmaiden. I built my entire life around writing. I didn’t know how else to do this. I didn’t know anyone who had ever become a writer. I had no, as they say, connections. I had no clues. I just began.

That’s what NaNo is, right? It’s the month that teaches us how to find the discipline and drive to be writers. The month we learn that yes, we can and will do this.

Here are some more thoughts on writing from Elizabeth Gilbert:

Okay. See? You’re not the only writer who feels crazy and / or frightened.

Your random challenge word of the day is: far

So. Time to send your characters far, far away?

Happy Noveling! :-)

  1. Wow…is Elizabeth Gilbert beyond gr8 or what?!

Talk about a huge MUSE THERAPY Moment for this chick!!!

And yes…yesterday I was shouting Allah or Ole because I finished my next book…today, I’m Gilbert’s proverbial dancer who woke up the next morning with the bad knees…only to start another journey toward another book and Allah/Ole moment.

    She absolutely nailed it.
Her words should be a comfort to all of us, as well as encouraging to press on.
Thanks for locating and posting this.
