NaNoWriMo Week 4

2013-Participant-Square-Button~ By Melina Kantor

Dear Wrimos,

We are almost there!

If you’re on track, way to go. Celebrate. Revel in it.

If you’re behind? That’s okay too. Celebrate what you’ve accomplished. Very likely, you’ve written more because of NaNo than you would have otherwise. And that’s fantastic.

I don’t know about you, but at this point, writing feels like this:

There’s nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein. – Red Smith

I’m three days behind. That’s 5001 words. I’m happy to sit at the computer and put in the time, but sometimes I’m at a literal loss for words.

If you’re in the same boat, here are some things to think about. Your word count will thank you:

Don’t tell me the moon is shining; show me the glint of light on broken glass. – Anton Chekhov

Your intuition knows what to write, so get out of the way. – Ray Bradbury

Dig until you hit rock. Then take out that jackhammer and go a little deeper. – Allison Brennan

The closer you get to 50K, or whatever your goal is, the easier it is to find the motivation to write. The pressure of getting closer to “November 30th” may also help you quiet your internal editor and allow you to write with surprising speed.

In the words of Nara Roberts:

You can’t edit a blank page.

If you’ve got tips to share, please leave a comment. If you need more NaNo inspiration, click here for past NaNo posts.

Good luck, everyone! We can do this!

Write on! 🙂
