Hello Contemporary Romance Writers! I am so excited to be your 2015 VP of Communications! This is a brand new position and one I am already having a ton of fun with.
First, a little about me. My name is Abigail Owen. I write both contemporary and paranormal romance. Like many of you, I’ve been a writer all my life, but have only become more serious with it in the last six years. Where the communications interest comes from: 5 years as a web designer, 10 years working for Intel as a sales analyst and efficiency program manager, several years using social media extensively for all of my writing related purposes. Put all of that together and you get me…super geek who loves social media, organizing, and interacting with readers and authors alike.
The new VP of Communications role covers…well…all things communications related. The blog, newsletter, Facebook, Twitter, etc. This sounds like a hugely daunting task, but it just sparks the organizer in me. Besides which, the awesome folks from past years who have pulled together to do all things that now fall under my role have already done all the heavy lifting. I am joining a team who handle a lot of the behind-the-scenes prep and management for the communications.
This year, I see my role as unifying how our chapter communicates. We have all the great tools and people in place, and I see myself as the center of the wheel, making sure it all gets to you via the different media available. I’d also like to make sure we’re using each form of communication to its best advantage. This means a lot of behind-the-scenes organizing, brainstorming, and scheduling to keep our posts out to you fresh, interesting, relevant, and consistent.
With that in mind, I’m opening myself up to the chapter for feedback. My team and I have several ideas we are eager to try. We are very open to suggestions! What would you like to see in terms of what we post on our chapter’s various media? More industry news? More prompts? More fun and games? Bring on the suggestions!
Abigail Owen was born in Greeley, Colorado, and raised in Austin, Texas. She now resides in Northern California with her husband and two adorable children who are the center of her universe. Abigail grew up consuming books and exploring the world through her writing. A fourth generation graduate of Texas A&M University, she attempted to find a practical career related to her favorite pastime by earning a degree in English Rhetoric (Technical Writing). However, she swiftly discovered that writing without imagination is not nearly as fun as writing with it.
Hi Abigail – I’m looking forward to getting to know you in your new position – congratulations and thanks for stepping up!
Thanks for all your hard work!
Thanks for representing, Abigail! Great name, too. 😉
