To kick off this very special and festive weekend, we’ve got a writing prompt. Don’t be shy. Dive in and give this a shot. It’ll get your “noveling” muscles warmed up for NaNoWriMo AND put you into the Halloween spirit.
Not only that, today’s prompt is also an exercise in character building.
It’s also, um, kind of
stolen borrowed from an episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Write a scene in which your protagonist wears a Halloween costume that makes her look like the opposite of who she actually is, OR represents who she wants to be. What happens to her behavior?
(Does the costume actually change her? You decide the degree of paranormal.)
How do people respond to the costume? How does your character change? Does the costume cause any problems?
Leave your scene in the comments! Stuck? This should help.
Here’s a bit more (creepy) inspiration:
Drusilla: Do you love my insides, the parts you can’t see?
Spike: Eyeballs to entrails, my sweet.
Bonus points if your scene includes the word: orange juice
If you’ve got a favorite Buffy moment (or Seinfeld / Friends moment, or any TV show moment you love) that would make a good writing prompt, let me know.
