Happy Thanksgiving!
We hope you get some writing done during this long weekend. To get you warmed up, we’ve got a writing prompt.
Don’t be shy. Dive in and give this a shot. It’ll help keep your brain in writing mode even during what may be busy times, and prompts are a great exercise in learning about your voice.
Not only that, today’s prompt is also an exercise in character building.
It’s also, um, kind of stolen borrowed from a famous episode of Friends.
Have fun!
Write a scene in which your protagonist is looking forward to a festive meal. Maybe she’s spent days cooking. Maybe she hasn’t had a home cooked meal in ages and has traveled miles for some family cooking. Either way, she’s excited, and possibly trying to impress somebody and / or prove something.
But then, something happens that ruins the food. Does she try to salvage the situation and make the most of it? Or does she throw a fit? How does she interact with those around her?
Does any good come of the situation?
Leave your scene in the comments! Stuck? These should help. (Or at least keep you entertained.)
If you’ve got a favorite Friends moment (or Seinfeld moment, or any TV show moment you love) that would make a good writing prompt, let me know.
Happy writing!
