A Message from Chapter President, Alana Albertson

ab_28 - abnHi!!!

I’m thrilled to be the newly elected president of RWA Contemporary Writers Chapter. In many ways, this is like coming home to me.

A quick introduction. My name is Alana Albertson, I’m a best-selling author of New Adult Romantic suspense. I also write young adult romance and contemporary romance. I live in sunny San Diego, with my husband and two little boys. Before becoming a full time author, I ran a test-preparation college admissions counseling business. I was also a professional ballroom dancer. In my free time, I rescue shelter dogs.

I wouldn’t be the writer I am today without RWA, and more importantly, the earlier incarnation of this chapter, Chick Lit Writers. I joined in 2007, was runner up in the Stiletto contest in 2008, and was President of the chapter 2009-2010. But the interest in Chick Lit was waning, and out chapter struggled to stay relevant, despite the passion of our members. I had proposed changing our chapter to contemporary romance several times throughout my presidency but it was never approved.

Writing is a solitary profession. We need a place to come together, share our joys and our disappointments, and bond over craft and concepts. RWA’s small chapters provide the support that authors need to succeed.

I have big plans for our chapter—including expanding the Stiletto contest to include published authors, reestablishing our mentorship program, and throwing the best party at Nationals.

I can’t wait to get to know all of you!!

Happy Writing.

Alana
